The nationally accredited and state licensed Laboratory Preschool, founded in 1934, is an inclusive early education setting serving over 70 children ages 4 months to six years and their families in part day Preschool programs for 2-4 year olds and full day PreK and Kindergarten programs for 4-6 year olds.

The Laboratory Preschool is part of the Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) Department within the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) at the University of Delaware. The Laboratory Preschool, which is nationally accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, exists for three interdependent purposes:

  • to prepare university students to be highly skilled practitioners, leaders and researchers who are committed to integrating theory, research and practice in the development, implementation and evaluation of inclusive programs and policies that enhance the development of all children and their families, promote children’s right to play, and prepare children to contribute to a democratic society within a global context;
  • serve as a site for researchers and students across the university and beyond and
  • provide a model of exemplary practice and research-based professional development for practitioners serving children and their families.
