The Lab School invites children ages 3 through 8 to join us this summer to build, experiment, explore and learn while playing with friends indoors and out.

Our summer camps offer children opportunities to explore human bodies in motion, engineering design challenges, the wonders of the natural environment or the incredible powers of their own brains.

Choose one or more camps that match your children’s ages and interests.

Body Mechanics Camp (Ages 4-6)

Let’s make science move! Jump, push, run and stretch your way through experiments and games based on body mechanics, nutrition, muscle movement, energy, force, gravity, balancing acts and more. During this camp, we will learn about our bodies through physical science. Each day, we will start with yoga and a hike followed by classroom time exploring our skeletal and muscular systems. We will discover new ways to move our bodies through exciting new sports like bocci ball, badminton and capture the flag.  We will also learn how to fuel our bodies with yummy, healthy foods which we will prepare ourselves. Join us for a fun exploration of the mechanics of our bodies!

June 5-16, Monday to Friday, 8:45-11:45, Cost: $300

Exploring Science Outside: Nature Explorers Camp

(Ages 30 months – 4 yrs.)

Our Nature Explorers 4-week camp will provide your child with opportunities to foster a relationship with nature through regular personal experiences as they use natural resources for inspiration, enabling their ideas while encouraging intrinsic motivation.  Incorporating the educational components of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and design and Math), children will spend extensive time outdoors as they explore the wonders of the world around them.  As they notice insects crawling and flying, as they play in sand, mud, and water, and as they observe the sky and clouds, plants and trees, children will work in ways that allow them to be creative problem solvers.

June 19- July 21 (closed for the week of July 3), Monday to Friday, 8:45-11:45, Cost: $600

My Incredible, Flexible Brain: I Can Be Mindful Camp

Knowledge is power! One way to empower children is to teach them that they can control their own cognitive and emotional health and their own learning.

This year’s My Incredible, Flexible Brain: I Can Be Mindful 4-week Summer Camp will focus on learning about our most complex organ – the brain. Through active engagement with the natural, physical and social worlds, campers will explore what the brain does, learn about the parts of the brain, examine the connection between exercise and learning and discover ways to stretch and shape this amazing organ. Campers will learn to strengthen their ability to focus their attention and to shift that focus when needed. They will learn to, effectively identify, express and handle strong emotions, as well as, learn how to look for and interpret common signs that other people use when they communicating with us. Camp fee includes the cost of a field trip to the Delaware Art Museum. Trip to take place the week of July 17th to visit Craig Colorusso: Sound + Light.

June 19- July 21 (closed on the week of July 3), Monday to Thursday – 9:00 to 3:00; Friday- 9:00 to 12:00, Cost: $825

After care is available, Monday to Thursday 3:00 to 5:30, cost: $18 per day

Making & Tinkering with STEAM Camp (Ages 5-8)

Can you build a chair for Baby Bear that would hold Goldilocks? Your child will have the opportunity to do just that as they develop their problem solving and creative thinking skills in this 4-week engineering camp. Engineers work together to solve real-world problems  At camp we will be solving the problems of familiar storybook characters! Each day we will read classic and modern picture books and think about the problems the characters face. Then we will tinker (take things apart, put things together, and figure out how things work) with new tools and materials. Finally, each child (or group of children) will make something to help the characters in the story solve their problem. Some days we will also explore design challenges that require us to work around constraints and requirements, just like real engineers. While tinkering, making, and engineering, your child will ask questions, make plans, work with others, test ideas, solve problems, improve ideas to make them better, and share ideas and creations with others.

June 19- July 21 (closed on the week of July 3), Monday to Thursday – 9:00 to 3:00; Friday- 9:00 to 12:00, Cost: $800

After care is available, Monday to Thursday 3:00 to 5:30, cost: $18 per day
